BASIA BULAT ON TOUR WITH LAKE STREET DIVE THIS FALL
O2 SHEPHERD’S BUSH EMPIRE DATE IN LONDON
After recently playing a packed-house at the Oslo Hackney on September 6th to celebrate Secret City Records’ 10th anniversary, Basia Bulat is happy to announce another date on her UK tour supporting Lake Street Dive this fall, November 10th in London at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire. Basia is releasing a brand new single to radio this week, the upbeat “La La Lie”, which The Evening Standard calls “irresistible and irresistibly catchy, La La Lie suggests Jess Glynn as much as Joanna Newsom.”
While The Guardian gave the Polaris Music Prize 2016 nominated Good Advice 4 stars upon its release, Basia Bulat was a guest on Later… With Jools Holland last May, was recently featured in The Independent and sat just yesterday with Ricky Ross for a session on BBC Radio Scotland. See below for complete tour dates.
Bulat teamed-up with friend and collaborator Jim James of My Morning Jacket on the album’s production, driving 600 miles from her home in Montreal to La La Land recording studio in James’ hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. Good Advice is a departure from Bulat’s previous work, with her voice backed up by drums, bass, electric guitar and keys. James plays electric guitar, synth, saxophone and bass on the album; further Louisville guests including members of Houndmouth, Twin Limb, Seth Kauffman of Floating Action and more also join Bulat.
Good Advice follows Bulat’s critically acclaimed Juno nominated and Polaris Music Prize short-listed 2013 release, Tall Tall Shadow, which The Line of Best Fit calls “a brilliant and engaging pop record” and the Austin Chronicle praises for its “lovely, spectral musing that balances indulgence with homespun tendencies.” In the two years since, Bulat has played shows across North America and Europe with The Shins, Sufjan Stevens, Destroyer, Daniel Lanois, Bahamas and more.
“With producer Jim James, something volcanic has occurred between the pair to create a wildly inventive yet mainstream sound. The result is a tantalisingly skewed artist in the vein of Bjork and Bat For Lashes.”
— Q Magazine – 4 Stars ****
“As pain and sorrow spill from her mouth, rhinestone-encrusted melodrama and misery cascade around her, synthesised gospel colliding with the stately majesty of Grizzly Bear or Beach House.”
— The Guardian – 4 Stars ****
“Bulat’s latest feels supercharged… She come arrestingly alive, invigorated by the roiling emotions and rich material of a raw breakup, and secondly by the warm, glowing production from Jim James.”
— The Observer – 4 Stars ****
“The next level is hers.”
