ANNOUNCE 2018 UK TOUR DATES
DEBUT ALBUM: ‘A SAFE DISTANCE TO WATCH’
- 4 MAY 2018 (UK RELEASE)
COLUMBIA MILLS are delighted to announce their first ever UK headline shows this April, plus set a date for the release of their album ‘A Safe Distance to Watch’.
Surfing to these shores on a wave of high acclaim from their native Ireland – the post-punk quintet arrive for whistle-stop tour that takes in appearances in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow (24-27 April 2018, full details below).
To coincide with the tour, the band have finally confirmed the keenly anticipated UK release date for their debut album: ’A Safe Distance To Watch’. Produced by Rob Kirwan (Depeche Mode, U2, Glasvegas), the record will be available on all formats from the 4th May 2018.
With worthy comparisons to the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Depeche Mode and Joy Division the band have already become a word of mouth sensation across the water with a trail of sell-out shows to their name. Unlikely to be best-kept secrets for too much longer, the band have hailed by the Hot Press mag for their “killer songwriting”, whereas the Irish Times have been quick to remark on the band’s knack for “lengthy, layered tunes that leave an indelible imprint.”
UK fans will now be able to able to get their very first taster of Columbia Mill’s exceptional live shows at the following shows this Spring:

COLUMBIA MILLS take their name from a building based on Dublin’s Quays. In the early 90s the
building became a mecca for the illegal rave scene bringing people together from all walks of life and all musical tastes. It was all about inclusion, something Columbia Mills believe very strongly in.
The diversity of music and social classes is something that has left a lasting impression on the city and has not been rediscovered since the police put an end to the institution in an early morning raid in the mid 90′s.
Based between Dublin and Wicklow in Ireland, the band have embraced the liberal ethos of the Columbia Mills era to both musical tastes and social equality. They have shaped their musical style with a guitar driven sound and an emphasis on electronic foundations. Having released two EPs to wide critical acclaim, their debut single ‘Never Gonna Look At You The Same’ was playlisted on Today FM and TXFM in Dublin and was also picked up by Radio X in London. Their music has been described as dark, ambient, emotive but with an almost deep south sensibility. Think Joy Division playing the Grand Ole Opry.
With their ‘Battles’ track receiving repeated hits on the playlists of Today FM (Ireland) last year, the quintet have since become a universal mainstay of Irish radio. From thereon, the Columbia Mills rocketed headlong through a whirlwind year that saw them storm the festival circuit; give RIDE, Public Service Broadcasting and more a run for their money during a series of high profile support slots; not to mention selling out their own headline show in at the iconic Button Factory in Dublin last November.
And it seems it’s only a matter of time until the band’s success bursts beyond the confines of their homeland. The clamorous ‘Battles’ was also picked up by WWE to feature in their documentary about wrestling superstar Finn Balor’s recovery from injury, and consequently breeding a whole new school of fans in the US of A.
2018 will see the band tour the UK for the first time in April, playing in some legendary venues such as King Tuts in Glasgow. Not to be missed.
