From September onwards Tom’s touring lineup will be driven by the sonic attack of his own wall-of-sound bassplaying made famous with TRB, Faithless drummer Andy Treacey, the chainsaw violin stylings of producer Gerry Diver, top London guitarslinger Adam Phillips (Richard Ashcroft, Cher, Rod Stewart etc) and Mancunian soul vocalist Lee Forsyth Griffiths.
With 15 shows currently booked throughout October and November, Tom Robinson’s Mighty Sword of Justice Tour - with special guests Kitten Pyramid – see him make a long overdue return to the UK tour circuit as both bands kick off in Hailsham Pavillion on 25th October.
Before then, Tom showcases Only The Now at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall in September with festival shows at Wickham, Green Man and Rambottom with a warm up at favourite Southampton venue The Brook (full dates below).
ONLY THE NOW – THE NEW ALBUM
Inspired by the wealth of new tunes that cross his desk every week, Tom has recorded Only The Now – his own first new studio album since 1996 – with violinist and award-winning producer Gerry Diver. The songs are as vibrant and edgy as any he’s ever written: the sound of a veteran craftsman – drawing on his long, rich fund of experience – with a renewed energy and purpose.
Only The New has been funded entirely through the PledgeMusic fan platform and will be released on 16 October 2015. It features a diverse range of special guests including John Grant, Billy Bragg, Martin Carthy, Colin Firth, Nadine Shah, Lee Forsyth Griffiths, Lisa Knapp, Sir Ian McKellen, TV Smith, and Nitin Sawhney.
Tom Robinson is a songwriter and broadcaster born in 1950. His career started in 1975 and he enjoyed chart success fronting his own Tom Robinson Band (TRB) with hits such as Glad To Be Gay, 2-4-6-8 Motorway and Up Against The Wall.
After releasing a further ten albums, he began hosting radio programmes on all the BBC’s major networks. He was a member of the founding team that launched BBC Radio 6 Music in 2002 – where over the past 13 years he’s become a huge fan and staunch champion of independent music and emerging artists.
