LA-based singer/songwriter/guitarist NoSo (he/they, real name: Baek Hwong) returns today with “Kaitlin”, their first new music since the release of their acclaimed 2022 debut ‘Stay Proud Of Me’.
Written as a celebration of acceptance and love, “Kaitlin” is a sun-kissed, endlessly catchy indie rock gem that also puts the acoustic side of NoSo’s guitar virtuosity on full display. The track also arrives alongside an accompanying lyric video.
Speaking of the track, NoSo explains: “I wrote this song when I was deep into learning intricate acoustic fingerstyle pieces and ended up composing the most difficult guitar part I’ve made yet.
It’s about being treated kindly in a relationship for the first time after years of subjecting myself to mistreatment because it was all I knew, and frankly, it was what I thought I deserved.
For many, many years, I genuinely believed something was wrong with me. I was disgusted by anyone who was caring and interested in me and I was only attracted to unkind people and hurtful behaviour. I felt stiff, robotic, and incapable of loving.
This song is ultimately a celebration. It’s about realising I have the capacity to love, to feel accepted, and to not be repelled by safety, but to run toward it, and even when it feels like I’m regressing, I know I can do it again.”
In the last year, NoSo has toured supporting artists such as Lucy Dacus, Hozier, Yumi Zouma, and Molly Burch, and has also played shows with Bartees Strange, Miya Folick, Cavetown, and Chloe Moriondo.
‘Stay Proud Of Me’ is a resilient, undeniable, deeply earnest indie rock record that grapples with the search for a sense of identity, overcoming impostor syndrome, and repressed memory. Released earlier this year, it has been met with universal acclaim behind profiles with All Things Considered, NPR Music, Billboard, FADER, Consequence of Sound, Paste, The Guardian + many more. ‘Stay Proud Of Me’ has over 3 million streams across platforms, has been featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday, All New Indie, and Indie Pop playlists, Sirius’s XMU Download 15, and KCRW’s Today’s Top Tune.
